The Wrecking Crew

I hope you like baking, because this movie is cookie cutter. That being said, even mass produced cookies can have some creativity. Take chocolate chip cookies for example. Remember when someone thought of adding cubed shaped chunks of chocolate to this classic recipe and chocolate chip cookies became chocolate chunk cookies? This movie, while predictable, had some fun bites.

The Wrecking Crew follows two estranged brothers investigating the death of their father. Add some Yakuza and a wealthy businessman wanting to make more money,  and you have the recipe for this film. The brothers are played by Dave Bautista and Jason Momoa, both of which are great actors. However, Momoa’s character may work a little too hard reminding us how much he likes beer and doesn’t care about being serious.

With all things considered, we’re giving this our “Wait for Streaming” rating. There are some fun scenes that make this worth the watch if you’re craving something that you don’t need to think about. We’ve got a lovely car vs. helicopter chase with ninjas on motorcycles, a nice home invasion fight scene where the hero is outnumbered but fighting at home field and a fun hallway fight that was no doubt inspired by The Raid. All of these are enough to add some flavor to an otherwise plain film.

And apologies for all the cooking references. Jan from Human Resources has been binge watching The Great British Bake Off for the past 6 months and we have thin walls. And what I wouldn’t give to try Prue’s pastries…
