The Gorge

The Gorge. No, this is not a film about my trip to the local Sizzler. That film would be much longer. And the steaks would be different. This movie is about two snipers tasked with guarding a large gorge that is believed to be the “Gateway to Hell”. Fun fact: the actual Gateway to Hell is the 2019 theatrical release of Cats. Specifically, somewhere between The Rum Tum Tugger and Skimbleshanks the Railway Cat, but I digress.

I have to say, I enjoyed The Gorge. The first half features beautiful cinematography of mountainous landscapes and shows the monotony of being a lone sniper in a rural area. Watching this portion would pair nicely with a comfy couch and a weighted blanket. After this, the movie starts to pick up with some action and the two snipers separated my a large terrain feature start to bond.

The chemistry between the two leads, played by Miles Teller & Anya Taylor-Joy, is very strong and the explanation of the science fiction aspect of the film is very creative. And holy crap, Sigourney Weaver is in it!! Say what???

I felt like the production value of the baddies could’ve been higher, but nevertheless, we’re still giving this our “Go to the Theater to See” rating. Fortunately, you don’t have to. This movie is free to watch on Apple TV…if you pay for Apple TV.
