Love Hurts
Ever stub your toe? It hurts, but you know what also hurts? Love. If you don’t believe me just look at the name of this film. See. Told you. But the real question here is, is watching this movie painful?
In short, this is an easy watch. It has some fun action and Ke Huy Quan is great! However, despite the fun action and strong lead, there are some issues. I felt like the filmmakers sped up the fights at moments to make it look like they were fighting faster and I found it a little distracting. Maybe I’m wrong. I wasn’t there when they filmed it (not sure why they didn’t invite me 🤔) but I have hit 1.5x speed button on Netflix before, and that’s what it looked like.
However, my biggest issue with this film is the fact that the epic cover of “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now” that was featured in the trailer was not in the film itself. I was longing for an epic final fight with maximum violence to the timeless pipes of Céline Dion, and I was deprived of that desire. This made me a very sad movie reviewer. Now I’m going to have to rewatch the final fight while playing the Queen of Power Ballads on a separate speaker to get my fix, and this responsibility shouldn’t be on me.
In conclusion, we’re giving this our “Wait for Streaming” rating. I’m a fan of the production company, the stunt workers, and Ke Huy Quan, but overall I feel like this one can be watched from home. I’m sorry if this mid-level rating offends anyone on the production team. I love you all, and sometimes Love Hurts. Now to charge my Bluetooth speaker for my Céline fix…
