Red One

Well, it snuck up on us, but I guess it’s Christmas time. Holiday movies are being released and my neighbor is officially checking the mail in his elf pajamas. To be clear, he’s wearing the pajamas…there’s not mail hidden within the pajamas.

Speaking of the holiday season, let’s talk Red One. This is an action style Christmas flick that features some  fun mythical characters that we don’t often get to see on the big screen, which makes for an enjoyable watch. Plus, we get to see The Rock and Chris Evans together in the same movie. These two are magic. If I had just 10% of their charisma, I’d be the coolest guy at my Chess club.

My only issues is with a PG-13 rating I feel like this film is in kind of a weird spot where for a holiday film it’s a little creepy for smaller kids, but not grown up enough for adults. Additionally, some of the effects feel a little low budget to me (Rock, please don’t find me and beat me up for saying so).

Based on all of the above, we’re giving this our “Rent it” rating. It’s always fun to try a new holiday movie over the Christmas season, but with the odd rating/tone it might be best to watch it from home where those who want to watch it can, and those that don’t want to watch it can search the house for Christmas gifts while the others are distracted.

Hang on, I have to go. My neighbor is at the mailbox again in his elf pajamas. I really wish those things had pants.

đź’ł= Rent it
