Jurassic World: Rebirth
Today I saw my local popcorn dealer and while I was there I thought I might as well see a movie. It helps the popcorn go down (#Science ). Today’s watch: Jurassic World: Rebirth. Did I just use two colons in one sentence? Seems excessive. We should really hire an editor. And hehe…”colon”. đź¤
In a nutshell, this movie is exactly what you expect. Like planning your own birthday, there aren’t any surprises here. From the beginning you’re like “Yep, that guy’s going to get eaten. So is he. They’re probably safe, but that one’s a goner.” That being said, the filming locations are beautiful and this movie is very well casted. Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey are always great, and then you add some Mahershala Ali…cherry on top! The man can act and his character is probably my favorite in the film.
As for my notes, there were several scenes that were directly out of the original. They could be considered nods to the first film, but also a missed opportunity to do something new. Also, they have mutated dinosaurs in this one. That’s not a spoiler, it’s in the trailer, but I really feel like there’s no need to try and change the antagonists in these movies. You have the perfect predator, a dinosaur, with an audience willing to suspend disbelief…use it! The best sequence in this movie, in my opinion, was the T-Rex scene and he was considered the “boring” dinosaur. Mr. Rex sir, I find you perfect. Don’t change a bit.
In conclusion, we’re giving this our “Wait for Streaming” rating. If you liked all the others and you saw them in theaters, then head on in to your local popcorn chain and check it out, otherwise you’re probably okay to wait for this one for when you’re in the mood for something reliable at home. This will meet your Jurassic Park needs. However, spoiler alert: it will not meet your Jeff Goldblum needs. Was that a third colon??
