Fantastic Four: First Steps
Marvel movies today are a lot like grocery shopping with a blindfold. You just never know what you’re going to get. However, Fantastic Four: First Steps stands out from what we’ve been seeing lately. I don’t even want to say that it feels like old school Marvel, because it doesn’t. It feels fresh.
Let me start by saying this movie is aesthetically pleasing. The set-design. The cinematography. It’s very interesting. I don’t know if the film is taking place in the 1960s, or in the future. It’s got sort of a Jetsons or live action Incredibles feel to it. My eyes loved it. I also immediately came home and redecorated my living room.
The other thing that set this apart from other Marvel films was the tone. To me, in a way, it almost felt more like of a disaster movie than a superhero film. Remember that stint in the late 90s where every movie had the President giving some sort of inspirational speech because the world was about to end…Deep Impact, Armageddon, Independence Day…this movie had that.
Lastly, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the chemistry of this awesome cast. In conclusion, we’re giving this our “Rent It” rating. It’s a great film, but no slap high five moments that you necessarily HAVE to see on the big screen. If you’re a big Marvel fan though, obviously get to the theater to watch it. Also, allot time to stop at IKEA on the way home because I’m telling you you’re going to want to redecorate.
