Superman
Look, the story of Superman has been repeated more times than me asking Susie Rindhart to prom. Fortunately, the new Superman film turned out to be a positive, whereas the only positive with the Susie situation was that she was “positive” that she didn’t want to go. Sorry, I digress. What were we talking about? Oh yes, the new Superman movie!
I liked it and thought it was very well done! I was curious to see what we would get with James Gunn at the helm, and he did not disappoint. There’s been a trend with some superhero movies where the creators believe they have to make them dark or gritty for audiences to like them. This film had a Guardians of the Galaxy feel to it where Gunn leans into the ridiculousness of it all. However, it also had some old school Christopher Reeves Superman vibes to it, which allowed me to also take it seriously when needed.
In conclusion, we’re giving this film our “Go to the Theater to See” rating. There’s a reason Superman has been around since 1938 and his story keeps getting told. Overall, it’s simply a fun watch on the big screen and it has a good message about what it means to be human and how we all make mistakes. For example, when I sent that candy-gram to Susie I had no idea she was allergic to peanut butter. And Susie, if you’re reading this, I’m truly sorry I mistook that Sharpie for your EpiPen. They should really label those things better.
