Predator: Badlands

Predator: Badlands provides an interesting and fresh take to the Predator franchise. In this adaptation the Predator, known as Dek, is outcasted by his clan due to his small size and is essentially dumped on a planet with dozens of creatures more vicious than my ex-wife.

This movie is fun because it’s the first time that the Predator is clearly the hero of the story and you find yourself rooting for him as opposed to thinking “Dear God, please don’t let this thing hop out of the screen and kill me! I’m too young to die and I never told Megan Swansom that I love her!!”

At moments, I felt the pacing of the movie was a little slow, but I really appreciated the simple plot and the short runtime. You’re in and you’re out and you’re entertained. I also appreciated the music. The chant like notes slowly building in the background was a great way to get you pumped. Makes you feel like you can tackle anything. I’m going to listen to it the next time I have to do something brave, like eat vegetables.

In conclusion, we’re giving this our “Wait for Streaming” rating. If you’re a big Predator fan, go check it out on the big screen, but several other Predator additions have been added to the franchise lately that were made exclusively for streaming and were quite enjoyable, such as Prey and Predator: Killer of Killers. If those can be enjoyed on a streaming platform, we believe Badlands can be as well. And aw man. I just found out we’re having snap peas for dinner. Forget what I said earlier. I hope the Predator does jump out of the screen and kills me. Hang my skinned skull in your war room as a trophy, just don’t make me eat the peas!!
