Lift
Lift, no this movie is not about a British elevator, but I wouldn’t have minded it if it was. I mean, all elevator movies have their ups and downs. This movie is about a gold heist starring Kevin Hart and was recently released exclusively on Netflix.
I enjoyed the movie over all, but felt it was very cliche. We know there’s going to be an impossible heist that they say can’t be done, but we also know they’re going to pull it off (spoiler alert)…(wait, I think I’m supposed to say “spoiler alert” at the front of the sentence).
The thing that wasn’t cliche here, was Kevin Hart’s performance. This is not funny, jokes at his expense Kevin Hart. Here, Kevin Hart plays a highly competent professional thief. His character was smoother than my medically retired uncle who worked for Johnson and Johnson (in case you’re wondering, Uncle Frank fell into a swimming pool sized vat of baby oil at the production factory. They were able to rescue him and to this day he’s got flawless skin.)
In conclusion, we’re giving this our “wait for streaming” rating. It’s mindless fun with some good cinematography and a fun cast, but it’s pretty straightforward. And it’s not just me saying this. The 10 year old boy sitting next to me agrees, oh wait, that’s my Uncle Frank.
