In The Grey

In The Grey is like a twelve foot cigarette, it’s a slow burn. For our followers outside the U.S., In The Grey is like a 3.66 meter cigarette, it’s a slow burn. But how does this film measure up on our rating scale? Let’s discuss.

The leads in this film are excellent! With actors like Henry Cavill, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Eiza Gonzalez, it is no surprise that they’re great. It’s also interesting in a way to see the plan being crafted for the extraction op (that’s military jargon for “operation” for all you non-commandos out there) that occurs at the end of the film. Most movies will cover the planning phase in a flashback after the action occurs. This features the opposite where the bulk of the movie is developing a plan, which they eventually use.

That being said, they make you wait for the action, but when it eventually happens, I wasn’t on the edge of my seat if I’m being honest. I think the problem was the scoring during the fire fights. The music seemed slow and suspenseful like it was building towards something, but at that point it was open season and the fight was on. The music should’ve hyped me up and instead it made me feel like I had to wait for more. Secondary pet peeve: I didn’t catch any reloads during the shootouts. Take it from this Keyboard Ranger, reloads are awesome guys! Add them in there!

In conclusion, with all things considered, we’re giving this film our “Wait for Streaming” rating.  It’s not bad, it’s not great, it’s…in the grey.
